On behalf of the Project Pink’d Board of Directors, Project Pink’d is pleased to announce the promotion of our Director of Marketing and Programming, Shawn McCarville, to Executive Director, effective July 1, 2024.
As Executive Director, Shawn will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for leading and managing Project Pink’d’s staff, survivorship programs, planning and expansion of impact, fundraising, stewardship, communications and execution of the Project Pink’d mission.
In addition to her volunteer work for over 10 years, Shawn has taken on many leadership roles including Program Coordinator, Director of Marketing and Programming, and has served on the Board of Directors since January 2020. Shawn brings a strong set of marketing and non-profit programming skills to the organization. Her drive for results and wealth of hands-on experience will play a major role in solidifying the viability of Project Pink’d going forward.
Outside of Project Pink’d, Shawn is a Member of the Greater Omaha Young Professionals and Center Sphere Network Group, volunteer for Hereditary Cancer Foundation and American Cancer Society, and supporter of Chairs for Recovery and the Collective for Hope.
Shawn received a Bachelor's degree in Marketing & Management from Northwest Missouri State University.
“It's been a real joy to watch Shawn's growth through the years. Her whole life story is truly remarkable, including going from a Project Pink'd volunteer in high school to Executive Director,“ said David Sturgeon, Project Pink’d President. “Shawn was the first full-time employee at Project Pink'd and was our late Founder, Cynthia Sturgeon's, personal selection. Shawn’s command of the details of all things Pink'd is amazing and most important she has Project Pink'd's mission in her heart.”
Shawn’s Personal Story:
"My story with Project Pink'd all started in the fall of 2011 when I was able to help set up EXPOSED. After my team completed our tasks, we were graciously given seats in the back GA section and were able to watch the night unfold and let me tell you it changed my life.
Some know that my mother died of breast cancer back in 2001, which was hard being that I was only 6 years old and didn't really understand. As I grew older, being involved in the community helping people like me was always important because I wanted to make a difference. After seeing the survivor ceremony at the 2011 EXPOSED benefit take place, I was in absolute awe at all the survivors in the room and broke down immediately. I told myself that my family and I HAD to be involved with this amazing organization.
I dove more into volunteering with Pink’d after I graduated from college in 2017. From then on I took many leadership roles from program coordinator to holding a position on the Board of Directors. Cynthia was pivotal in the growth I was able to make from 2017-2022. She was the one that saw the potential and passion I had for this organization. In the spring of 2022, she and the Board officially hired me to be the Marketing Manager.
Over the past two years I have had the opportunity to wear many hats and I am proud to say that this next step in my journey is a dream come true. I would not be in this position without the constant and continued support from my family, friends, and supporters of Project Pink’d."
